Digital ID Is Coming This Autumn
One of the biggest takeaways from last week's Martyn's Law roundtable wasn't just understanding the legislation, it was recognising how differently organisations will need to respond to it.
Hosted by Serve Legal in partnership with Prova Risk, the session brought together representatives from cinemas, supermarkets, motorway service areas and other customer-facing businesses to discuss the practical implications of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025.
Christopher Hotchkiss, CEO & Founder of Prova Risk, led an engaging discussion that moved beyond the legislation itself and focused on what compliance looks like in practice. What became clear was that there is no universal checklist.
Although many organisations will fall within the scope of Martyn's Law, each faces very different operational challenges. A supermarket experiences customer flow very differently from a cinema, while a motorway service area presents its own unique considerations. The legislation recognises this by requiring organisations to implement measures that are reasonably practicable for their individual sites, rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.
That made for an excellent discussion, with attendees openly sharing how they're approaching planning, assessing risk and preparing their estates ahead of the April 2027 compliance deadline.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway was that while the deadline may seem some way off, organisations with multiple locations have a significant amount of work ahead—from understanding which premises fall within scope to developing procedures, training colleagues and evidencing compliance.
A huge thank you to Christopher Hotchkiss for sharing his expertise, and to everyone who contributed to such an open and insightful conversation. Serve Legal is proud to be working alongside Prova Risk to help organisations navigate these new requirements with confidence.
